A summer of love

Things seem a little depressing in the world at the moment – current politics, terrorism, natural and unnatural disasters.   It would be all to easy to lose faith in humanity and withdraw into a cave in pursuit of life as a hermit!  But if you look closely, from a different angle, you might just see that these dark events are just the things to bring out the best in humanity!

Take for example the recent bombing in Manchester.  Despite the chaos, confusion and fear, ordinary people reacted with tremendous kindness: people rushed to help the injured and scared; offered shelter and food to victims; and taxi drivers offered free lifts to people who were stranded while public transport was shut down.  Similar acts followed the fire at Grenfell Tower in London.

So, if people can show such kindness and compassion at the worst of times – surly it’s easy to do during the day-to-day run of the mill??

In an attempt to bring more light and love to the world, in a day-to-day kind of way, I have decided that this August I am going to focus on love, kindness and compassion.  So why don’t you join me for a summer of love!  Each day there will be a post – an inspirational quote, a suggestion for a random act of kindness, and even some research about why being kind is actually good for us, as well as society – probably interspersed with some of my ramblings!
